Reflections from a first time camper's parent:
"This was my 10-year-old son's first experience at overnight camp. He has not stopped talking about all things camp since he's been home to anyone who would listen, but it has always taken him a long time to open up. The first week home without asking he picked up his room and cleaned the shower. I said to his father, "who is this child"? He shared every day they had cleanup duty for their cabin and now he simply starts his chores without being asked.
He talked about the zipline and being scared, but trying it anyway with the staff encouraging him to just try. His cabin was the "J Block" and he talked about how his counselors reminded him of his Dad and Uncle. We were at the Zoo recently and he was singing loudly "Jesus is my Best Friend" as we walked around. He sings all the songs by heart. He's a picky eater but he described food he liked that I've never made.
I love his new sense of independence and how much this will help kickstart his middle school experience this fall! I am beyond grateful for all he has learned and know this is already on his calendar for next year."
Your support and giving keeps camp open and free for all campers. “Our God is an Awesome God!”, and we are full of gratitude for the work of God in every person who has served, prayed, and given to create this camp experience for all of our campers.
Campers and staff are loving this swag to make sure they are hydrated and equipped. Every camper has a water bottle, bag to carry it, journal, bible, camp t-shirt, and cabin picture. Big thanks to our Night of Hope guests who funded this project that gives campers items to take home and hold closely the memories of new things they have learned.
Sunday we are opening the cabins to camper families! This is our 3rd summer to host families for an R&R at camp. We open the pool, climbing tower, zipline, ropes course, and hiking trails for families to have special time together. With our staff preparing and serving the meals, they get a weekend in nature to simply be together as a family.
