Preparing for the Next Seventy-Five Years
An Announcement from the Shiloh Board of Trustees
March 2025
The Shiloh Board of Trustees is pleased to introduce Greg Merriweather as Shiloh’s next Executive Director.
He replaces twenty-eight-year executive director Lori Bumpas. Beginning in 1997, she took a run-down summer camp and a shoe-string operation and transformed Shiloh into the well-equipped, well-maintained camp it is today. With love, resourcefulness, and devotion she has completed capital projects such as the camp Celebration Center and established year-round neighborhood programs concentrated in the Bronx. She brilliantly led us through the Covid years by creating opportunities to support the growing needs of Shiloh families. While diligently fundraising, she oversaw the transition of Shiloh to growing New York City-based staff and leadership beyond the Counselor-in-Training program.
There are no words to express our gratitude to Lori, and when she directed us this past year to a national search firm to find her replacement, we knew we had a large task ahead of us. But after weeks of reading résumés and listening to on-line interviews conducted by a search firm, Greg Merriweather, with his substantial corporate business career and pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Haverstraw NY, emerged as our #1 candidate. He was then interviewed on-line by the search committee the board appointed (as were two other candidates), then interviewed by the board first on-line, and following that in-person in December. At each stage in the process, Greg excelled.
We came to see Greg as an outstanding candidate, and we have every reason to suppose that he will become a caring, competent, visionary executive director. That he is already New York City knowledgeable, that he is a loving husband and father of three, that he has both substantial corporate experience and pastoral gifts, and that he brings with him an extensive network of city churches in Harlem and the Bronx, we believe offers every possibility that he is just the person to launch Shiloh into its next chapter.
Greg will have Lori with him as his part-time adviser initially. The board feels that together they will prepare Shiloh well for its next seventy-five years.
