SHILOH FAMILY FUND UPDATES
Our staff has made over 400 phone calls to 2019 participants and emailed over 800 families in our database. We spoke to campers and families about their needs, concerns, health, and where they are seeing hope.
SHILOH GIVES NYC KIDS access to build hope
ShilohNYC offers programs for youth ages 8-21. HiDef is our year-round teen mentoring program that meets weekly and is currently meeting virtually. We work with partner schools in NYC for recruiting, afterschool programming and SERVE Spring Break tutoring and volunteer projects. Camp Shiloh is our sleepaway summer camp 90 miles outside of NYC, offered to campers 9-15 free of charge. We offer CIT internships for youth 16-18 at Camp Shiloh.
We recruit youth through partnering schools in the South Bronx, NY and community programs in Bridgeport, CT. These networks were created to bridge an enrichment gap based on areas that lack sufficient opportunities or resources.
Over 120 grocery and 25 meal deliveries have been made to families since March, and continue as fresh produce remains a need for many families. The best part about delivering meals and groceries is being able to connect with a family. Sometimes it is the first time we’ve met a camper’s family, and others we have known for decades.
One family had not had a full pantry or produce in weeks, and another was unable to shop because of ill family members. Some experienced job loss, and others were missing the food provided by school meals.
