KITCHEN LEAD:
Get ready to play a key role in making sure camp runs smoothly by assisting the Kitchen Manager in preparing meals that fuel campers for their day! From preparing fresh, nutritious food to keeping the kitchen organized and safe, you’ll help create a welcoming space where every camper can enjoy delicious meals. You’ll ensure everything is set for meal times, contribute to maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and support the team to make every day a success. This position is all about teamwork, creativity, and keeping campers energized for all the fun camp has to offer!

General Responsibilities:
1. Nutrition Support: Play a vital role in ensuring campers and staff are fueled for their day by assisting the Kitchen Manager in preparing and serving three balanced meals a day, plus one or two snacks.
2. Inventory Management: Help maintain an organized system for managing food inventory, including monitoring supplies, organizing fridges, freezers, and dry storage, and ensuring stock levels are adequate.
3. Kitchen Upkeep: Assist with the general maintenance and cleanliness of the kitchen, ensuring it remains a safe, hygienic, and efficient workspace that meets health standards.

This role is essential to delivering delicious, nutritious meals while contributing to the smooth operation of the kitchen and the overall camp experience!
Ratio: 1 Lead for the camp season
Qualifications and Certifications:
1. Age Minimum: 18 years
2. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
3. Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a kitchen or culinary environment, with a focus on food preparation, safety, and sanitation
4. Skills: Proficiency in operating kitchen equipment safely and knowledge of Department of Health regulations and food safety standards
5. Certifications (Preferred): Food Safety Certification or similar culinary qualifications

Responsible to: Kitchen Manager
General Tasks & Responsibilities (List not inclusive of all duties):
1. Food Preparation: Assist with prepping food to ensure that all meals are ready to serve on time.
2. Kitchen Cleaning: Maintain a clean and organized kitchen by washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring the kitchen meets health and safety standards.
3. Inventory Support: Help manage food inventory, including stocking and organizing supplies to keep the kitchen running efficiently.
4. Food Safety: Follow health department and USDA safety standards when handling food, ensuring that meals are prepared and stored safely.
5. Food Allergy Management: Ensure proper handling and safety precautions for food allergies, creating a safe environment for all campers and staff.
6. Laundry Assistance: Wash and maintain kitchen linens and laundry as needed to keep the kitchen fully stocked.
7. Mentoring CITs: Encourage and train Counselors in Training (CITs) who are helping in the kitchen, offering guidance and support in their duties.
8. General Camp Support: Be flexible and assist in other areas of camp as needed, contributing to the overall success of the camp experience.

This role is essential in creating a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment while helping campers and staff stay nourished and supported throughout the camp experience!
Work Conditions:
Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, swimming, team building initiatives, building campfires, physical games, and activities.
Must be capable of carrying loads of up to 90 pounds and able to traverse hilly and uneven terrain without undue exertion.
Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
Perform essential program support to camp activities and programs which may include, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, working in narrow and/or confining spaces underground, overhead, and at ground level, twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs, and lying on stomach and/or back.
Must have the ability to physically manage and support children when needed for safety in general camp activities (child weighing 50 - 200 pounds).
Ability to perform a variety of tasks outdoors in different climates.
STIPEND: $275+ per week depending on experience. Meals, housing and transportation are provided.
